Questors To Hold Its Inaugural Festival of New Theatre

An explosion of creative talent is promised with three plays being staged

Designed by Evelina Plonyte

In July, The Questors will host its inaugural Festival of New Theatre – featuring creative talent for audiences, writers and theatre-makers, and the local community.

The Festival will include three brand new full-length plays, plus a sprinkling of short plays, chosen from hundreds of script submissions. The Questors has curated a programme of what it considers to be the most exciting new works, from a diverse pool of writers across UK & Ireland.

As well as championing new writers, this festival includes work from new directors, partially-devised work, plus collaborative projects with the Questors Young People Theatre and improvisation from the Questors House team, The Slack Captains.

There will be panels and workshops where you can find out more about the ideas and processes behind the plays, contribute to the development of new plays and pick up some tips for your own writing.

The plays to be staged are as follows:

Two Cleaners
By Chiara Arrigoni
19, 20, 21 & 23 July | in the Studio

All is not what it seems when Two Cleaners get to work, as they chat about life and their jobs we begin to see something more sinister might need cleaning up.

Mute
By Emily Glaze

18, 20, 22 & 23 July | in the Studio

This production explores the evolution of a relationship after one partner undergoes a life-altering illness. How does control shift, when the other is faced with the weight of responsibility?

On Me
By Caroline Lamb
18, 19, 20 & 22 July | in the Studio

Following the blossoming romance between actors Shona and Christian, On Me* investigates the ways in which we navigate relationships in the post #MeToo era, exploring the pressures on men and women to serve as role models and protectors while somehow maintaining natural and fulfilling romantic lives. This play contains themes of sexual violence, stalking and murder and is not recommended for those aged under 15.

The festival takes place from 18 - 23 July and tickets can be booked online.

Two visiting companies will be coming to The Questors over the Summer to stage musicals. Brit Youth Theatre will be performing Annie Junior from 16 - 25 June in the Studio. Based on a comic strip, Annie is a musical that tells the story of a little orphan who ends up in the lap of luxury with Depression-era billionaire Oliver Warbucks. Book tickets.

Then from 27 -31 July the Encore Theatre Company will be in the Judi Dench Playhouse performing Shrek the Musical. Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig, it is a Tony award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring music by Jeanine Tesori with lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. Book tickets.
