Scouts deliver a thank you message to Benchmark Scaffolding's yard
March 19, 2026
A generous donation from a local business is set to accelerate the renovation of a much-loved Scout hut in Hanwell, offering a significant boost to opportunities for young people across Ealing. The 7th Hanwell Scout Group has received free scaffolding from Benchmark Scaffolding to support the replacement of the roof at its headquarters, The Warren, on Trumpers Way.
The contribution will allow the group to press ahead with essential refurbishment work on the building, which has served generations of local families. Leaders say the improvements will help them expand the activities they can offer and ensure the hut remains a safe, welcoming space for young people to learn new skills, build friendships and enjoy outdoor adventure.
Lead Volunteer Adrian Walker said the donation would make a meaningful difference to a project that relies entirely on volunteers and community goodwill. “The hall has been at the heart of our Scout Group for many years, used every week by young people and families from across the Hanwell community,” he said. “The roof replacement is a major project, and without the support of local businesses like Benchmark, work of this scale would be significantly harder to deliver for a volunteer-run organisation like ours. We're enormously grateful to the team at Benchmark for their generosity and community spirit. Acts of local support like this make a real difference.”
Scouting continues to play a vital role in the lives of young people, with recent surveys showing that 92 per cent of members feel they have developed useful skills and 85 per cent have tried activities they had never attempted before. The movement now offers more than 200 activities, ranging from abseiling and coding to drama and water-zorbing.
Chief Scout Dwayne Fields welcomed Benchmark’s support, emphasising the wider impact of investment in local groups. “A heartfelt thank you to Benchmark Scaffolding for their generous donation to 7th Hanwell Scouts,” he said. “Now more than ever, young people need the confidence, support and sense of belonging that Scouting provides. This funding will go directly towards helping us continue to make a lasting difference in their lives.”

The scaffolding is enabling the roof repair to be ciompleted more quickly
The 7th Hanwell Scout Group has thanked Benchmark Scaffolding, along with the Scouts, parents, carers and volunteers who have helped move the renovation forward. Leaders say the project reflects the strength of community spirit in Hanwell and the shared commitment to giving young people the best possible start.
