87 young people from Air Cadets Middlesex-Wing received their Jack Petchey Foundation Awards presented at a live event at Greenford Assembly Hall earlier this monh.

The live event celebrated Achievement Award winners aged 11-25 from Ealing Borough for their contributions to their unit. Winners received medallions and framed certificates from the Foundation, along with a £300 grant to spend for the benefit of their unit.

In addition, 4 adults were awarded Leader Awards for demonstrating outstanding ability to motivate young people. They also each received a medallion and a framed certificate.

Ealing has received over £982,000 from the Jack Petchey Foundation since funding started.

One of the award winners was 15-year-old Daniel Wong who attends Air Cadets Middlesex Wing 14F Northolt. He earned his award for ‘exceptional leadership and role modelling’. Participating in various activities throughout the year, he has gained valuable experience that he now imparts to the squadron through leadership exercises and shooting sessions. Daniel has dedicated himself to learning new skills and actively contributing to numerous squadron activities. His leaders say he has established a strong rapport with fellow cadets who appreciate his assistance and mentorship and that Sergeant Daniel Wong consistently exceeds expectations and deserves recognition for his efforts.

Daniel said: “I was delighted to win this award today. It means a lot that my actions are recognised.”

Daniel decided to spend his £300 Jack Petchey Achievement Award grant on adventure training equipment for his unit.

Sir Jack founded the Jack Petchey Foundation in 1999 to recognise the positive contributions young people make to society and to support them in achieving their potential. Since then the Foundation has supported over 2,000 initiatives for young people across London and Essex and has invested over £150m.

Sir Jack Petchey CBE, 98, said, “I am passionate about our awards scheme which enables young people to be recognised, valued and rewarded for their achievements and positive contributions to society.”
