Celebrations as Playing Fields Protected From Development

Three sites in Ealing now safeguarded

Three of Ealing's playing fields in have been given 'Field in Trust' status meaning they will be protected from development forever.

The local applications made through the ‘Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge’ programme, (brought in to celebrate this year’s Diamond Jubilee, Olympic and Paralympic Games) have been successful.

Lord Halsbury Memorial Field in Northolt, Southall Recreation Ground and Hanger Hill (Fox Wood) will be designated as Queen Elizabeth II Fields meaning they will safeguarded as outdoor recreational spaces in perpetuity.

It also means each site is eligible to apply for a grant of £10,000 to make improvements and encourage more people to take part in sport, play and outdoor recreations.

Nationally there have been over 1,300 outdoor spaces nominated for protection so far and £3.1 Million has been awarded in improvement funds.

Local MP Angie Bray added her support to turn Hanger Hill Park Playing Fields (Fox Wood Field) into a ‘Field in Trust’ and is delighted with the news, she said:

“I was happy to help when local residents asked me to support their campaign – it’s really important that local communities can keep open their local facilities for sport and other kinds of leisure activities and I’m really pleased we’ve got the result we wanted.”
