Bid to Safeguard Hanger Hill Playing Fields

Local MP backs residents trying to protect open land

A campaign's underway to ensure playing fields in Ealing are protected from development.

Local MP Angie Bray is adding her support to turn Hanger Hill Park Playing Fields (Fox Wood Field) into a ‘Field in Trust’.

Ms Bray has backed local residents who want to safeguard the future of the site so everyone in the community who wants free access to its facilities for sport, recreation and play can continue to enjoy them.

An application would be made through the ‘Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge’ programme, brought in to celebrate this year’s Diamond Jubilee, Olympic and Paralympic Games and with a view to preparing for the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

If successful, Hanger Hill Park Playing Fields will be safeguarded in perpetuity, and while the responsibilities for running the site will remain in local hands, inclusion in the scheme would act as a barrier to any possible future development.

After writing to Ealing Council indicating her support for the application, Angie said:

“I’m delighted to add my support to this campaign. The playing fields in Fox Wood Field are a great local asset and are enjoyed by hundreds of residents each week. After all our tremendous Olympic success this summer, including some inspiring stories from Ealing, I can’t see a better way of helping to prepare for future success than by putting forward the site for safeguarding.”
