Local Politicians Unite in Condemnation of Ealing Disturbances

And praise the emergency services for their bravery

Ealing's Labour, Liberal Democrats and Conservatives politicians have joined forces to condemn Monday night's violence.

Council Leader Julian Bell expressed his total anger at the '' mindless gangs of young thugs who rampaged through our normally peaceful streets attacking innocent bystanders, businesses and the Police.''

Liberal Democrat Leader Gary Malcolm said:

'' These mindless, misguided and evil rioters and thieves need to be shown that they cannot do as they wish. They need to pay back in terms of time doing a very large amount of community service as well as paying back for all the damage they have caused.''.

They both noted the bravery of the emergency services and thanked the Council workers for the clean-up.

Conservative Councillor David Millican said:

'' I have just returned from an evening walk along Northfields Ave and South Ealing Road and I spent the day in central and west Ealing talking to businesses and offering encouragement.

''I have been hugely heartened by the resilience of our local business people who worked hard today to open their shops and businesses under such difficult circumstances.

''The Council contractors should be congratulated on their superb job clearing away the glass and debris by mid-morning.

''I would like to thank the Police for the bravery shown by the many officers in the streets.
The increased police presence tonight should offer re-assurance to residents and deter the mindless hooligans responsible for this outrage.
