Suspects resist arrest on Haven Green

Ealing Borough Police would like to appeal for witnesses to the obstruction of a police officer, which occurred in Haven Green, Ealing, W5 at 2300hrs on Thursday 26th September 2006.

A 26 year old police officer was off duty and on his way home when noticed two people acting suspiciously next to the cycle rack, which is on an island in the road next to the taxi rank on Haven Green.

The officer noticed that a male suspect was using a small pair of bolt cutters in an attempt to break a bicycle lock. He identified himself as a police officer and asked what he was doing. The suspect replied that the bike was his and he was attempting to break the lock because he had left his keys at home.

The officer suspected the suspects were attempting to steal the bicycle. The officer put his theory to the suspects and called for backup. The suspects fled across the road and boarded a PR1 bus, which was stationary at the bus stop close to Ealing Broadway Tube Station. The officer boarded the bus and attempted to detain the male suspect.

The suspect resisted and then ran into the middle of the road where he was detained on the ground by the officer. He was then taken from the road back towards the entrance to Burger King on Haven Green. He then began to resist violently and was detained on the ground by the officer.  At this point the female suspect had on number of occasions obstructed the officer in an attempt to release the male suspect.

A short time later two British Transport police officers have arrived on scene to assist.
