Charge changed to manslaughter as accused pleads not guilty
A pub bouncer will stand trial for the manslaughter of Nick Padget.
Kevin Griffiths, who was originally charged with the murder, is accused of killing of the 27 year old Chiswick man with a single punch during an altercation that took place outside O’Neill’s Pub on Ealing Common in July.
Nick Padget suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at Ealing Hospital the next day, Sunday July 2.
The Old Bailey was told this week that the prosecution changing the original murder charge to manslaughter. A spokesperson for the prosecution said "In the circumstances of this case death was caused as a result of a single punch to Mr Padget and he hit his head on the pavement and that was the cause of death. There was no evidence the defendant said or did anything before or after to provide a realistic prospect of conviction on murder."
29 year old Kevin Griffiths, who us currently on conditional bail, pleaded not guilty to the single charge of manslaughter; his trial is set to begin on 12th March 2007.
