Thirteen arrests made after violent robbery on 207 bus

Thirty officers from Ealing Borough police made further arrests on suspicion of robbery and assault in dawn raids. The arrests were made in connection with the vicious assault and robbery of a man on a 207 bus travelling through Ealing on Sunday 17th September 2006.

Police have launched a major operation involving over 70 officers against a gang of youths alleged to be involved in robberies and an assault that took place on local public transport.
Six arrests were made after dawn raid this week on charges relating to an incident in which over 30 male and female youths stormed onto a 207 bus and robbed passengers seriously assaulting one in the process. The raids on 2nd November were launched on eight properties in Acton, Southall, Hammersmith and Shepherd's Bush.
Officers from Ealing borough worked jointly on the operation with their colleagues from Hammersmith and Harrow. The individuals arrested were all males aged between 14 and 18. and include a 16 year old male from Fitzneal Street, Acton and an 18 year old male from Doyle House, South Acton Estate. They are currently in custody at two west London police stations.
The arrests were made in connection with the vicious assault and robbery of a 22 year old man from Hayes on a 207 bus travelling through Ealing at 5.30am on Sunday 17th September . The victim was subject to an unprovoked attack by a large group of approximately 30 male and female youths. A large group of youths got on the bus outside Sainsbury’s, The Broadway, W5 and attacked the victim between Ealing Broadway and Ealing Common.
He was left with a broken nose, a cut to his nose and a deep laceration to his eyelid, which required 9 stitches. He was taken to West Middlesex hospital and later transferred to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital to have an operation on his eye injuries. He had his wallet, which contained £70, and his mobile phone stolen during the incident. The group also snatched a mobile phone from a 33 year old woman from West Ealing as they alighted the bus at the 207 bus stop opposite Ealing Common Tube Station and made off towards Acton.
The arrests follow the arrest of three youths in Crown Street, W3 shortly after the incident. These males are now on bail until early December pending further enquiries. They include two 13 year olds from West Ealing. A further four males aged between 15-17 years, who were arrested in connection with a robbery in Southall Broadway on 1st November , have rearrested whilst in custody in respect to this investigation. They include a 15 year old male from Manor Gardens, Chiswick and two 17 year old males from Clandon Close and Bollo Bridge Road, Acton.
Detective Inspector Craig McKinlay, Ealing Borough Police said, “In total we have arrested 13 individuals for this horrific attack on an innocent member of the public. The results portray excellent intelligence led police work and the effectiveness of borough’s working in partnership to reduce street crime.”
