When Will Ealing and Acton Get Promised Cinemas?

Latest information from Ealing council

remains of Ealing Cinema

It's been eight years (and counting) since Ealing last had a cinema, all that remains is the facade and a boarded up site.

Following the Compulsory Purchase Order which took ownership of the land away from Empire, Ealing Council has been dealing with Land Securities to develop the Filmworks leisure quarter. Apart from a flurry of excitement in March when hoardings were put up - no building work has started yet.

Over two years ago Acton was promised a Curzon at the site of the former library but nothing has happened here either.

So what is going on?

We asked Ealing Council to provide us with some information and this is the latest:

Ealing Cinema update:

In advance of construction work, hoardings have been put up which show the proposed Filmworks development.  Land Securities have been in negotiation with the owners of the remaining sites for land needed and with the council regarding the programme for the development.

Acton Cinema update:

Curzon Corinthian was appointed as the developer to refurbish the site for the new cinema.  Ealing Council is now working with the developer to progress the scheme.

We have requested further information from both Land Securities and Curzon and will update as soon as responses are received.
