League tables for primary schools in Ealing where pupils took SATs exams earlier this year have been published - but the table is incomplete because many schools chose to boycott the exams.

Fielding, Little Ealing, Grange and St Mark's were amongst the 17 schools that chose not to enter their year 6 students opting out of what some see as controversial exams.

Eight of the borough’s primary schools are ranked in the country’s top 5% for helping pupils aged seven to 11 progress at school, according to the latest figures.

The 2010 Key Stage 2 Achievement and Attainment tables also show that 60% of the 45 borough primary schools that took part in this year’s SATS tests helped pupils to achieve more than expected.

And across the borough, 90% of 10 to 11 year olds made the expected amount of progress in English compared to 84% nationally, while 88% made the expected progress in maths, compared to 83% nationally.

The eight Ealing primary schools recognised as being in the top 5% are:
Coston Primary School in Greenford.
Downe Manor Primary School in Northolt.
Gifford Primary School in Northolt.
Montpelier Primary School in Ealing.
North Primary School in Southall.
St John's Primary School in West Ealing.
St Vincent Catholic Primary School in Acton.

Councillor Patricia Walker, cabinet member for cabinet member for Children and Young People, said: “Teachers and students should be very proud of these results. Ealing schools have a record of performing well and supporting children to achieve their best and these latest results show the good work that is happening in classrooms across the borough.

“We are ranked sixth in English and fourteenth in maths nationally in terms of our student’s progress between ages seven and 11 and it is impressive to see so many of our schools in the top 5% nationally.”

Individually, Brentside in W7 achieved 100% success at grade 4 maths and english followed by North Primary in Southall (97%) and  Saint Vincent in Acton (93%).

Bottom of the table for children achieving grade 4 is Petts Hill in Northolt, less than half the class (39%) made the grade.
