Gunnersbury Avenue Roadworks to Overrun

Northbound lane closure on A406 to continue until mid-September

The northbound lane closure on A406 Gunnersbury Avenue had been extended to 13 September 2016.

It was originally scheduled to finish before the end of August in time for the end of the school holidays but Transport for London (TfL) now say that ‘due to the extent of the works required’ an extenstion of the single lane closure is needed. The temporary 30mph speed restriction will also remain in place.

TfL is replacing the Power Road Bridge which carries the A406 Gunnersbury Avenue over the railway line at a cost of £35 million. Not replacing the existing bridge would mean restricting the weight of vehicles and closing lanes to carry out maintenance, resulting in considerable disruption in the long term. The new structure will have an expected design lifespan of 120 years.

Works are now underway to divert the utility pipes and cables from the existing carriageway onto the new service bridge. TfL say this will minimise the need for road closures for future maintenance works. Work will continue on site from 8am to 6pm on weekdays and some weekends.
