Just a few weeks to go until the Brentford Festival on Sunday 7 September. Yes, we are all still hard at work and that includes me. It seems that the last diary of an Event Manager has confused a lot of people. I know this because of email and social media messages and in person when I am spotted.
I am retiring, yes, but from the Brentford Festival only, not all the other things I am involved in – don’t write me off yet. The most amusing was when a group of people tried to put an age to me. Some said I was in my 60’s and others said in my 80’s. Well, all I can say is age is just a number and I have some good projects still left in me for the benefit of the community.
We would like to encourage people not to drive to the event but can take up Red Routemasters kind offer of putting on a shuttle service throughout the day. See map and timetable below.
For those that are interested in knowing more about the old GSK building – Hadley the new owners will be on hand for a chat. We have tried to get flyers delivered to as much of Brentford as we could. I am told that 6,913 were delivered by yesterday but of course, if you didn’t get yours then this is your reminder.

We are grateful to those that have helped us with sponsorship – Boston Manor Residents’ Association, ASPL and Hadley. This has allowed us to be able to employ security which is now a legal requirement.
The layout this year has changed slightly, partly because the fairground has pulled out last minute. That is after the flyers went to print which is a shame. The Dog Show and petting farm will therefore be over towards the allotment area – don’t forget to bring your dog – it is all for fun!
The pavilion café will be run by young volunteers – most have completed their Duke of Edinburgh time with the Consortium and others just want to volunteer. I will pop in from time to time but I am sure they will be great.
So, on that note, thank you to all the volunteers who have come forward offering to help with the day. Thank you to you for reading this and hope to see you on the day.

Like Reading Articles Like This? Help Us Produce More This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism. Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets. We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more. However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do. We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area. A suggested monthly payment is £8 but we would be grateful for any amount for instance if you think this site offers the equivalent value of a subscription to a daily printed newspaper you may wish to consider £20 per month. If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site. One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute. If you do support us in this way we’d be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor. For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you’d like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT. All payments are made through a secure web site. |
