All Hands On Deck For Ealing Volunteers' Week

Bumper series of activities planned for 1st – 7th June

Volunteers’ Week, the annual nationwide celebration of volunteering, gets off to a suitably celebratory start on Monday 4 June with a tea to launch the Ealing Faith Volunteering programme.

Muslim community leaders will be meeting at Ealing Community Resource Centre, the new flagship home for the voluntary sector in Ealing, where they will share ideas and afternoon tea before being given a guided tour of the Centre in Mattock Lane.

On Tuesday 5 June Ealing Volunteer Centre will promote the many facets of volunteering, with a display at West Ealing Library. Lizzie Saunders, Manager of Ealing Volunteer Centre, said: “People are often surprised to discover how many different opportunities there are to choose from – from helping at a carnival, to conservation work, IT, being a football coach, counselling or as a helping hand at a luncheon club. I encourage everyone who is interested in volunteering to drop into West Ealing Library to find out more. Volunteering plays a vital role in supporting the local community, and makes a lasting difference.”

On Wednesday 6th June representatives from the six West London boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon and Hounslow will be meeting to explore the theme of public service volunteering.

Co-ordinated in England by Volunteering England, the Volunteers’ Week message is that whoever you are, whatever you're good at and whatever you'd like to try there's a time-giving activity that will appeal.

This is the 23rd Volunteers’ Week, which has been held annually in the UK since 1984.
Over half the population volunteer. In 2005, 68% of people in England (or 27.4 million people) volunteered informally, while 44 per cent of people (or 17.9 million people in England) volunteered formally.

Ealing Volunteer Centre is part of Ealing Community and Voluntary Service, the umbrella support charity for voluntary organisations in the London Borough of Ealing. The Ealing Faith Volunteering programme aims to promote community cohesion by supporting Muslims and members of other groups to work together in local challenges.

Ealing Community Resource Centre offers facilities to community groups, including meeting rooms, hot-desking facilities, training and counselling rooms, and a community IT and information suite. It operates a community equipment loan scheme.
