Ealing's Newest Attraction at Gurnell Leisure Centre

The state-of-the art skatepark was officially opened and proved a popular draw today

The skateboarding extravaganza attracted hundreds of local people and visitors who enjoyed the free skateboarding lessons, skills demonstrations by professional riders and live entertainment.

Councillor Julian Bell, leader of the council, said:

“It was great to see people of different ages come out and enjoy the new facility. The demonstrations by the professionals showed just what you can achieve with some practice and dedication. I’m really pleased that we’ve given young people something they asked for and seeing their enthusiasm for their park makes it all worthwhile.”

Opposition leader Councillor David Millican said:

''A couple of years ago when the Conservatives still ran Ealing Council, we asked young people across the borough what investments they wanted. We allocated £1m for youth projects and overwhelmingly they told us they wanted a skate park. So that is what we arranged. I remember meeting very excited skaters at the Town Hall in the early days of the planning, letting them take the lead on designs.  It might have been installed in Elthorne Park, but it is certainly popular at Gurnell.
I am pleased that the incoming Labour Council kept the faith with young people and continued with our plans to build a skate park.
What a pleasure to see so many young people enjoying themselves!  Its such a success that they want second one.  Now there's a challenge!''

Ealing Skatepark is next to Gurnell Leisure Centre, Ruislip Road East, London W13 0AL
