Skate Park Gets Go Ahead

along with play area plans at Gurnell Leisure Centre

Plans to build a skate park as part of a £500,000 outdoor play area alongside Gurnell Leisure Centre were approved last night by Ealing Council’s Cabinet.

The council will be spending £200,000 to build the skateboarding park alongside a selection of other play and sports facilities for young people of all ages to enjoy, next to Gurnell leisure centre. The plans will now need to be considered by the council’s planning committee.

In addition to the council’s investment, plans for the site also include spending £120,000 awarded as part of the Play Builder programme to build a specially designed play area. A further £200,000 will be spent from the 2010/11 capital programme to improve the entrance of the site, create a multi use games area and make general improvements to the grounds.

Councillor Kamaljit Dhindsa, cabinet member for customer and community service said: “This is a very exciting project and is a great way of getting more young people involved in all kinds of sports and outdoor activities. There will be plenty to do in the new park, whether you’re on a skate board or just fancy an afternoon out with the children.”

“We want to keep local people involved with the development process and will be starting a consultation on the design and feel of the new park and play areas later this month.”

The council is continuing to ask people what they think of the proposal and plans for the play area. To complete the survey and for more information, log on to www.ealing.gov.uk/consultations. Alternatively contact an officer in the parks team on 020 8825 9699. Paper copies of the consultation questionnaire are available on request. The consultation closes on Friday, 12 November.
