Pitshanger Gets Top Marks in Government Study

A shopping parade 'to be proud of'

The community and traders of Pitshanger Lane have been used as an example of what can be achieved when local bodies work together.

The shopping parade and Community Association in Ealing are featured in a Government study into how independents are faring in the current climate.

In the report 'Parades to be Proud of: Strategies to Support Local Shops', the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG), noted the many events that go on in the area including the ever successful Party in The Park and Light Up The Lane at Christmas.

The report states: “It has a strong and very active community association which works closely with local traders and other local partners, such as the council and the police.

“The involvement with local traders with these significant community events emphasises their integration with the local community and further builds customer loyalty.”

Representatives from the DCLG spoke to John Martin, chairman of the Pitshanger Village Traders' Association and Karen Jacks, chairwoman of the Pitshanger Community Association.

Mr Martin, who runs John Martin Estates, said the success of the area reflected the strengths of communities working together.

The report goes on to point out the many benefits of shopping with small independent traders.
