Ealing Hospital Volunteer Features in West End Exhibition
Photography display celebrates 75 years of the NHS

Ealing Hospital’s longest serving volunteer is currently feature in a photography exhibition in the West End which celebrates 75 years of the NHS.
The picture of 101-year-old Beryl Carr was taken by NHS worker Steve Watkins who said: “Beryl is a bit of a legend at the hospital and still comes in every Wednesday to keep an eye on us all.”
It has been put on display at the House of Fuji in Long Acre, Covent Garden along with 74 images taken by health workers. Beryl featured in the ‘Our Partners’ category alongside Louis, a Pets as Therapy dog, and Rodney, an NHS chaplain.
Beyrl says of being the oldest volunteer in the health service, “I really enjoy the social side of it. I can’t think of anything worse than being stuck in front of the TV.”
The exhibition ‘Our NHS at 75’ is a collaboration between Fujifilm UK and NHS England, and will run throughout July and August.
It began with a competition launched in April in which NHS staff and volunteers were encouraged to share photos expressing their unique stories of what the NHS means to them.
With This Morning’s resident GP Dr Ellie, award-winning journalist Victoria Macdonald, eminent photographer Lewis Khan, Dr Habib Naqvi MBE, Fujifilm’s Theo Georghiades and Chief Nursing Officer for England, Dame Ruth May on the judging panel, the entries were whittled down.
The five winning photographs, along with 70 commended entries are being presented at the FUJIFILM House of Photography.
