Another library in the borough of Ealing has been forced to close after the discovery of bedbugs.

The Ealing Libraries posted on its X account (formerly Twitter) this Monday (11 December) that a small number of the insects had been sighted at Northolt Library on Church Road.

It continued, “We are contacting professional pest controllers who will advise us on the best way to treat the bugs and we will provide you with regular updates once we have considered their advice.”

Library users were referred to the library at the Northolt Leisure Centre at Eastcote Lane North and anyone needing support from the Community Hub which normally operates from Northolt Library has been told to go to Southall Library in the Dominion Centre or other Community Hubs located at Acton Library and Ealing Central Library.

This is the second such incident in the borough over recent weeks. The Ealing Central Library was closed at the end of October after an infestation was found reopening in the first week of November. This required the removal of all soft furnishings including carpets from the building for fumigation.

It is thought that bedbugs can survive in books and therefore a library could become a key point of transmission of the pest if it is allowed to stay open.

After the previous case, the council said that professional pest control solutions were used with safe chemicals employed in the building by Rentokill.
