An Update from Hanwell Community Library
Seeking more volunteers as it looks to extend opening hours
With the help of volunteers, Hanwell Community Library has been back in action for the last eight months.
It believes it is on track to extend its opening hours in shortly and is still looking for volunteers who would like to help on either a Friday morning (10am-1pm) or Friday afternoon (2pm-5pm). These would be customer facing shifts and typical activities involve registering new users, issuing, returning, and renewing books and shelving and sorting library stock. The current operating hours are as follows
Tuesday 10am-1pm then 2pm- 5pm
Wednesday 10am-1pm then 2pm-5pm
Thursday 2pm-5pm
Saturday 10am-4pm
A free Easter egg hunt will be running at the Library from 1-14 April. Ten Easter eggs will be hidden around the Library, can you find them all to win a yummy prize? No need to book, just ask at the front desk to take part.
Hanwell Community Library Homework Club will be taking place in the Library every Tuesday afternoon 3:30-5:00pm from Tuesday 26 Apri. Sessions which are for under 13s will take place on a drop in basis, there is no need to book.
Local resident David Blackwell will be returning to Hanwell Community Library to run local history drop-in sessions. Come and explore the history of Hanwell through word, maps and pictures! David will be based in the community room on the first Saturday of every month, starting on Saturday 2 April, 10am-4pm There is no need to book, just drop in any time between 10am-4pm. Free event.
The Library has launched a Community Book Swap based at the front entrance of the building. The books have been donated by library users and volunteers. You are invited to come and see what is available for you to read or bring one of your own books to swap. Pen and paper will be provided for you to leave a note for the next reader on your thoughts on the book.
The Library team would like to learn more about how visitors feel about its services and what you would like to see in this Community Library in the future. It is holding a survey for people to share their views and ideas. The survey is anonymous and the Library says it will help it to ensure that decisions about the Library reflect what the community would like to see. Physical copies are available at the Library and the survey can also be completed online.
The Library offers opportunities for young people taking their Duke of Edinburgh awards. Recently Seth completed 12 hours of volunteering in the Library for his bronze Duke of Edinburgh award. The Library team said, “Seth has proved to be an expert when it comes to using the Library computer systems and has fitted right in with the team. We are pleased to announce that Seth will be staying with us to complete his silver award! Well done Seth!”
Demand for place is such that now the earliest available slots would be at the end of this year.
The Library is currently thinking of additional clubs and events for young people and would welcome any suggestions or ideas on anything that you would like to see taking place
Storytime is a free activity for under 5's to attend and usually includes two stories followed by a series of nursery rhymes. Storytime takes place in the Library at 11am every Wednesday.
