Notting Hill and Ealing High School’s 150 th year has already been a memorable one with a number of celebrations of the milestone as well as a clutch of awards gained.
A banner year was capped last weekend with the announcement that it has been included in the Top 25 schools in The Sunday Times’ Parent Power League Table for Independent Schools.
This honour completes an outstanding year of including 14 award wins and nominations for the school.
Notting Hill & Ealing High School also won the coveted ‘London Independent School of the Year’ Award at the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2024 and Charitable Work Champion at the School House Magazine awards.
“Our 150th year has been a chance to celebrate our rich history, but also to mark the breadth of our students’ interests and the opportunities they embrace. These awards acknowledge our ambition for our students and excellence across all aspects of an NHEHS education.” said Headmaster Mr Matthew Shoults.
The school was included as a Top 20 All-Girls’ School for Cricket in The Cricketer Schools Guide, a top value school in Telegraph Money’s value-for-money league table, and Top London Senior School in Education Choices magazine.
The school was also a ‘contender’ (runner up) for Inspiring Green Initiatives (prep and senior) and Great for Sixth Form in The Week Independent Schools Guide: Best of the Best, and finalists for Pastoral Care Champion at the School House Magazine Awards. They were also finalists for Awesome Sixth Form and Championing Sustainability and highly commended for Best Experiential Learning (senior) at Muddy’s Best Schools awards.
During NHEHS’s 150th year, the new sustainable and carbon-neutral Junior School building was officially opened at a ceremony by TV presenter and local alumna Konnie Huq. The building won the Ealing Civic Society Annual Award 2024 in October 2024.
The school’s landmark 150th anniversary celebrations kicked off on the school’s birthday, 16th September 2023, with birthday cake for pupils and an afternoon tea party for alumnae. Mr Shoults also took Sixth Form politics students to the Houses of Parliament to see local MP Rupa Huq deliver a petition to mark the school’s birthday.
Early 2024 saw a book published with 150 memories of the school from alumnae and staff. In March, the school held a concert at Cadogan Hall, Sloane Square, where over 200 pupils and alumnae sang the world-premier of ‘Shooting Stars’, a specially commissioned piece by British composer Kerry Andrews, with words based on a poem by alumna writer Violet Hunt. The Parents’ Guild Anniversary Ball was also held in March. A whole-school Volunteering Day in June saw pupils donate 3500 hours of time to 30 local charities. The school’s first Giving Day in July saw all pupils complete challenges relating to 150 for 36 hours.
Celebrations raised funds to support the new 150th anniversary bursary appeal to provide three new bursary places at the school.
“A significant focus of our 150th anniversary has been on fundraising for more bursaries, improving social mobility and access to the opportunities we give our girls,” said Headmaster, Mr Matthew Shoults.
