Road Safety on Uxbridge Road

Hanwell crossing under scrutiny at public meeting

Ealing Council and West London Citizens are holding a joint public meeting next week to discuss proposals to alter the junction at Church Road and Uxbridge Road in Hanwell.

The meeting will take place on Thursday 14 October at St Mellitus Church on Church Road at 7.30pm, and will be an opportunity for residents, local traders and other users of the junction to find out more about the council’s plans to improve the crossing for pedestrians.

At the meeting, discussions will take place into the various options, and officers will be there to answer any questions.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for Transport and Environment said: “I know this busy junction well and the difficulties residents face crossing it. A priority for this council is road safety for pedestrians as well as road users. That is why we’ve looked at every possible option to see what can be achieved.

“I am very keen to hear what local people think of our ideas and I hope that as many as possible will join us at the meeting. We are here to listen.”

Councillor Mahfouz and ward councillors, Councillor Nigel Bakhai, Councillor Yeol Gordon and Councillor Anita Kapoor, will all attend on the night, as well as the council’s transport officers. Representatives from West London Citizens will also attend.

A study in 2005 by Living Streets revealed that improving this junction for pedestrians was a top priority.
