Traffic jams throughout borough causing driver frustration
Roads in Ealing are in the top ten of congested areas of London.
The research, conducted over two years by navigation company TomTom, places Bedford Road, Clapham at number one - it's congested for 92 hours a week.
Joint second (with Trinity Road, Wandsworth ) is Uxbridge Road, Southall and South Ealing which suffer from 85 hours of traffic jams a week.
Popes Lane is also mentioned - drivers using this road can expect 81 hours of delays.
The Evening Standard recently revealed there were a record 370,000 sets of roadworks throughout the Capital — the equivalent of each of London's estimated 85,000 streets being dug up an average of four times in the last year.
TomTom's chief executive Harold Goddijn said: “For many drivers, traffic congestion has become inevitable. It's time to challenge conventional thinking with a working solution to reduce the problem now on a huge scale.”
A TfL spokesman said: “We share Londoners' frustration at the delays caused by unnecessary congestion. However, nine of the 10 roads identified in this survey are the responsibility of London's boroughs and this is why we continue to work closely with them to try to improve and smooth traffic flow.''
Ealing Cllr Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for Transport and Environment said:
"Smoothing traffic flow across the borough is a priority for Ealing Council. Both roads in this survey - Uxbridge Road and Popes Lane - have projects under way for improvements which will help relieve congestion. It also shows the need for continued investment in public transport alternatives from above in our bus and rail network, which is currently under question."
