A man was taken to hospital after being rescued by firefighters from a third-floor roof terrace at The White House in Ealing.

The blaze broke out this Saturday (11 March) at around 4.06pm at the building on Park View Road built by Prince John Zylinski on the model of his family’s palace back in Poland.

Two women, who had left the house before fire crews arrived, were treated at the scene by paramedics.

The damage to the property is believed to be confined to a bedroom on the first floor and caused by a fan heater accidentally being left to close to combustible materials.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Ealing, Acton, Park Royal, Wembley and Chiswick fire stations attended the scene and had the incident under control in just over an hour.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said, “Fan heaters should always be used in an uncluttered space where heat and air flow is unrestricted.

“It’s also absolutely vital that heaters are kept well away from curtains, furniture, paperwork and are never used to dry clothes. Always sit at least a metre away from the heater, particularly those using them whilst working from home, as it could set fire to your clothes or your chair and position them where they won’t be knocked over and away from pets.”

The original White House in Poland was burned down by the communist regime and Prince Zylinski was inspired to rebuild it in Ealing after hearing tales of their family home from his grandmother who had survived a concentration camp. When he was six years old he promised her he would rebuild it and after seven years’ building work it was completed in May 2009. Two bricks from the original building remain in Prince Zylinski’s office in the Ealing house.
