Commuters at Ealing Broadway Elizabeth line station will have the chance to buy striking calendars and Christmas cards created by photographers who have experienced homelessness or are living in temporary accommodation.
On 18, 20 and 22 December, the creators themselves will be selling their work at the station between 11:30am and 4pm, as part of a long-running initiative by charity MYWORLD (formerly Café Art).
Since 2012, MYWORLD has distributed disposable cameras to people rough sleeping or in temporary accommodation, with the help of volunteers including staff from the Elizabeth line operator. Cameras are handed out at The Crypt at St Paul’s Cathedral, and participants are invited to capture London from their own perspective.
After a week, the cameras are returned, and each photographer selects three favourite images. These are displayed at Elizabeth line stations for the public to vote on, with the winning shots featured in the annual calendar My London, Photos From The Street.
Each calendar purchase directly benefits the photographers, who receive 50 per cent of the retail price, with the remainder covering production costs. Christmas cards are also available, featuring festive images of Regent Street, Oxford Street and Knightsbridge taken by three MYLONDON photographers. The card sales provide commissions to the creators and help fund digital cameras for a free weekly mentoring group run by the Royal Photographic Society.
The initiative has already transformed lives by giving participants a platform to share their creativity and earn income, while raising awareness of homelessness across London.
Alongside the station sales, residents can also support local charities by visiting the Christmas card shop at Christ the Saviour Church in Ealing Broadway, which remains open until 18 December.
