Mahaba Café Marks National Inclusion Week

Mahaba Café, a not-for-profit training café based in West Ealing, is hosting a series of events to mark National Inclusion Week, which runs from 15 to 21 September.
The café, located on Singapore Road, provides training and work experience for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), supporting their transition into paid employment within the hospitality sector.
As part of the week’s activities, Mahaba Café is launching two new community initiatives. The first is a Free or Donate Community Library, designed to encourage reading and sharing among residents. The second is a registered Chatty Café table, aimed at promoting social interaction and reducing loneliness.
Learners and graduates from Mahaba Café’s training programme will also be undertaking work placements at several local businesses, including Juniper, Reineta, Young’s Pubs (The New Inn), and Gail’s. In addition, the café is showcasing artwork by Ealing-based artist Riley Clifton, with prints available for purchase.
An Open House event is taking place on Tuesday 16 September, offering visitors the chance to meet staff and trainees, and learn more about the café’s work. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.
Muriel Morgan Walckiers, founder of Mahaba Café, said the week was an opportunity to demonstrate inclusion in practice. “Young people with SEND are gaining skills, confidence, and opportunities that transform lives,” she said. “We’re proud to be part of Ealing’s inclusive community.”
Dele Ryder, Partnership and Fundraising Manager for A2Dominion, which supports the café’s work, described the transformation of the Green Man Lane community facility into a training and education hub as “remarkable.”
According to recent figures, only 2.2% of adults with learning disabilities in Ealing are in employment, compared to a London average of 7%. Since opening, Mahaba Café has trained 36 graduates and delivered over 2,600 hours of instruction, with 60% of graduates now in paid roles.
The café’s work is supported by A2Dominion, The National Lottery Community Fund, Clarion Futures, Compass Group Foundation, Young Ealing Foundation, and donations from local businesses and residents.
