St John's Primary School

With around 259 pupils, St John's is a smaller than average primary for the area, serving a catchment area with significant pockets of deprivation and in buildings that don't inspire from the outside. It does not reach the above average performance in SATS as most of the other schools in the area, although its value-added score is equivalent to many of the top performing schools (i.e. it helps pupils during their time at the school to improve their performance well above the level to which they were expected to perform).

It has a high number of pupils with learning difficulties and mobility at the school is very high. Two thirds of the children have a home language other than English. For those children who stay the course, their attainment by the end of Year 6 is in line with national standards, and the most recent OFSTED report describes good teaching and excellent language and special needs support.

Despite the name it is not a faith school.
