Hounslow Council’s Garden Waste Collection Service will see the annual charge increase from next month.
To ensure your cuttings, leaves, grass and weeds are taken away every fortnight you are being encouraged to sign up before the end of March for the 2025/2026 year.
The council says that March is the ideal time to start planning for the spring planting ahead – from getting the flower beds ready and pruning roses to raking grass and removing leaves and weeds.
A brown 240L wheelie bin is provided to collect the waste. If your property isn't eligible for wheelie bins, the council delivers two re-usable waste sacks. You cannot choose to have sacks instead of a wheelie bin.
The annual charge has risen again this year from £65 to £75 equating to £3 per collection with 25 collections if you sign up for the full year. The cost is £37.50 for anyone receiving a Council Tax Reduction or if you sign up for a half year (29 September 2025 to 31 March 2026).
Having cost £50 when charging was first introduced for the service in 2016, the price has risen sharply since 2022.
The council says it has needed to do this to cover rising operational costs and ensure cost recovery for the service.
Cllr Shivraj Grewal, lead member for Infrastructure, Recycling and Transformation, said, “Our paid-for garden waste collection service is designed to support residents with front and back gardens, or frequent leaf fall, to keep their gardens tidy and well-maintained throughout the year. With our kerbside collections, residents can focus on their gardening tasks without worrying about what to do with their garden waste. And the good news doesn’t end there as every collection is recycled to create compost.”
Residents not subscribed to the service can sign up here and if you are already subscribed you receive reminder letters or emails with instructions on how to renew.
Garden waste can also be recycled and turned into compost at home or taken to the Reuse and Recycling Centre at Space Waye or the Townmead Re-use and Recycling Centre in Mortlake.
