'An American President in Ealing'

Forthcoming talk from Hounslow and District History Society

An American President in Ealing is the subject of the forthcoming meeting of the Hounslow and District History Society on 25 October at the United Reformed Church Hall, Chapel Road, Hounslow TW3 1UL commencing at 7.45pm.

The speakers are Mary Woods and Duncan Cameron, members of the Little Ealing History Group.

The talk is based on the Group’s recently-published book “An American President in Ealing: The John Quincy-Adams Diaries.” Mr Quincy-Adams, the th President of the United States of America, was the US Representative in Britain from 1815-1817. He lived in Little Boston House, Windmill Road, Ealing and the diaries reveal a rich tapestry of local life and its issues, from the aristocracy to penniless vagrants, not forgetting a cricket match in Gunnersbury Park and a ball at the New Inn in Ealing Village.

This promises to be a most revealing lecture about, regrettably, a little-known person in our neighbouring borough. The book of 96 pages will be on sale at the meeting at £10.00. Non-Members of the society are welcome with an entrance fee of £2.00 which includes tea or coffee and biscuits.
