Cllr Alex Karmel to represent the borough
Cllr Alex Karmel has been named the new Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham. A keen Chelsea FC supporter, Cllr Karmel succeeds Cllr Andrew Johnson and has chosen Help for Heroes as his Mayoral charity.
"It is a great privilege to have been nominated to this position and I feel humbled and honoured. I am very proud to be able to represent all the citizens of this diverse and vibrant borough and look forward to serving as Mayor for the coming year," Cllr Karmel said.
“Help for Heroes is a magnificent charity, doing wonderful work for soldiers and other servicemen and women who have suffered horrific injuries fighting on our behalf. As a military man myself, it is a cause close to my heart and I hope to raise significant funds over the next 12 months,” he said.
The borough Mayor chairs council meetings and is responsible for attending functions and greeting guests on behalf of the borough.
Raised in Lillie Road, Cllr Karmel has a strong military background and has served in the Green Jacket Regulars and the Territorial Army Honourable Artillery Company.
He first became a councillor in 1992 and became ward member for Munster in 2002, during which time he has served as chairman on the licensing committee and vice chairman of the planning committee.
Cllr Karmel has named Cllr Jane Law as his consort and Cllr Adronie Alford will serve as his Deputy. Executive responsibility for parks has now fallen into Cllr Frances Stainton’s remit and Cllr Mark Loveday has been named the new chief whip.
