Urgent appeal made for volunteers in Hammersmith and Fulham
Volunteers for Parkinson's UK in London
Parkinson’s UK’s Hammersmith and Fulham group has issued an urgent appeal for volunteers as the group faces closure.
The local branch could be forced to shut as numbers have been in decline and it has now been inactive for a number of months.
The branch, which used to meet in Hammersmith, is looking for an activity leader and host volunteer roles to restart the group and hold events in a new venue, such as a cafe.
The volunteers will ensure people with Parkinson’s who live locally can access activities that can make a real difference to them. These flexible roles are responsible for organising room bookings and refreshments for the activity available on site and welcoming people.
Karina Prithwani, Network Support Officer, Parkinson’s UK, said, “Activities provided by local groups are a lifeline for people in the local area who are living with Parkinson’s, but unless new volunteers step forward people could be left without the support they need.
“If you can spare a few hours a month we’d love to welcome you to volunteer alongside the amazing people who are part of the Hammersmith group - because with your support we really can change lives.”
Around 145,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with Parkinson’s and Parkinson's UK is the UK's leading charity supporting those with the condition. Its mission is to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's through pioneering research, information, support and campaigning.
There are around 365 Parkinson's UK local groups throughout the UK, which are run by volunteers who are trained and supported by Parkinson's UK staff.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets. We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more. However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them.
