Remembering VE Day

Commemorations at Ealing Town Hall on Friday 8th May

Ealing Council is inviting residents to take part in an event at Ealing Town Hall on Friday, 8 May, to commemorate the end of the Second World War.

This will be the anniversary of VE-Day (Victory in Europe Day), marking 70 years since the end of the conflict in Europe in 1945.
On 8 May, residents can join in with the commemorations on the Town Hall steps at 3pm, including speeches by dignitaries as well as a two-minute silence.

The historic day will be marked across the UK with three days of events, including a parade, service of thanksgiving and star-studded concert in central London. There will also be street parties and beacon-lighting taking place all over the country.

The council also recently honoured those who gave their lives through conflict, by reviewing all local war memorials to keep them in good condition, so that residents can view them as part of the borough’s historic walks.

A two-minute silence also takes place annually for Armistice Day on the Ealing Town Hall steps, while other official Remembrance Day services and events take place at war memorials across the borough.
