A Fresh Approach to Romeo and Juliet

Theatre Studio West base Shakespeare's play in the Caribbean

From Thursday 5th to 7th July , the Questors Playhouse Theatre will host an adaptation of Shakespeare’s work : Romeo & Juliet, performed by Acton based Theatre Studio West Youth Company.

Julie Saunders injects fresh blood into the Bard’s well-known play Romeo and Juliet by combining the classic storyline with an added twist. Reset in the Caribbean during the 1900’s, at the time of the British Empire - it not only deepens the feud between the two families which in turn, makes the love of Romeo and Juliet poignantly heartrending, but allows the cast to bring out every ounce of comedy, the intensity of the tension and leaves the audience with some thought-provoking questions.

Theatre Studio West (TSW) a registered Charity based in Acton was set up in 2006 by local director/actress Julie Saunders with over 25 years professional experience. TSW is committed to delivering professional youth theatre productions for young people who through cultural, economic and social disadvantages wouldn’t normally have access to artistic opportunities, enabling them the opportunity to have a positive voice within their community and explore the issues they face using Drama.
