Stand Up for Sams

Impressive line up of comedians announced for the Questors event

A spectacular cast of comedians are taking the floor to show their support for the Ealing, Hammersmith and Hounslow branch of the Samaritans. Time for you to do the same.

Wednesday 15 October's Stand-up for Sams at the Questors is the latest in a series of exciting fund-raising events.

This unique music and comedy extravaganza is open to all, and is great value with tickets priced at just £15. Kick-off is at 7.45pm, and acts include:

  • Kevin Eldon – actor, comedian and poet from screens big and small, famous for his roles in Big Train, Brass Eye, Hot Fuzz and many more
  • Far From Kansas – the finest of the fine, handpicked from the ranks of the world-renowned London Gay Men's Chorus
  • Louise Golbey – the singer, songwriter and musician tipped as the new Amy Winehouse
  • Milton Jones – multi award-winning star of five Radio 4 series and master of comic timing, recently declared the 'King of the surreal one-liners' by The Times.
More very special guests will be announced in the coming weeks, all supporting Ealing, Hammersmith and Hounslow Samaritans in their aim to build additional training and meeting facilities at the local Samaritans centre. “We are looking forward to a fantastic and fun-filled night, with new acts confirming all the time,” said Richard Freeman, a volunteer at Ealing, Hammersmith and Hounslow Samaritans and brains behind the New Room Appeal and Stand-up for Sams event. “I was astounded and delighted by the response we received from entertainers across the country. So many acts have given their talent and time, we are truly grateful for their support.”

Stephen Pettitt, Director of Ealing, Hammersmith and Hounslow Samaritans, added: “We hope that Stand-up for Sams will result in a healthy boost to our ambitious appeal. Those who go to the show will not only have a fantastic time but can also feel secure in the knowledge that they've done their bit to support the continuing work our 120 or so volunteers, who devote many hours of their free time to offer non-judgemental emotional support to anyone who needs it.”

The Ealing Samaritans’ New Room Appeal, an initiative that aims to raise £60,000 for additional training and meeting facilities at the centre, was launched in July by Ealing North MP Steve Pound. To date it has generated great and varied support from people like the Poet Laureate, Professor Andrew Motion, to The Rt Hon Tony Benn PC, former Secretary of State for Industry. Recently an anonymous donor pledged £1,000, a generous and much appreciated step towards the £60,000 needed.

The appeal has also been featured on the charity website www.charityappeals.com . And as if Stand-up for Sams was not enough for October, two brave souls will be diving rather than standing, to raise money for Samaritans with a sponsored skydive in the same month.
