Meet
the newly arrived tamarins, mara and mongeese
Fur, feathers and Father Christmas will greet residents when they arrive
at the annual Brent Lodge Park Animal Centre Christmas Party which will
be held on Sunday 18 December.
From 11am until 3pm people can visit the animals, meet Father Christmas
and take part in a range of fun activities. Visitors will be able to make
their own Christmas card, a Christmas mask or a present for the animals.
There will also be a Christmas trail around the animal centre. All activities
are individually priced from 50p each. It will cost £1.50 to meet
Father Christmas, which includes a special gift. The Christmas trail will
cost £1.50, which includes the entry fee into the main animal building
for one adult and one child. Or, people can purchase an inclusive ticket
for £4 which covers all the fun and games.
The Christmas Party also gives people the chance to meet the animal centre's
new residents. A number of new species joined the centre this Autumn.
A group of white lipped tamarins have been transferred to the centre from
the Cotswold Wildlife Park. These small primates are a family group comprising
mum and dad and three siblings. They are a lively and inquisitive group
and should prove to be a hit with Christmas visitors.
A family group of mara and a pair of dwarf mongooses have also arrived,
coming from London Zoo. Mara are large rodents and are related to guinea
pigs, but have longer legs, as their main defence mechanism is to run
away. Mum and Dad had their baby in September this year. The dwarf mongooses
have moved into a heated indoor area and pop in and out throughout the
day to say hello. Staff at the animal centre are hoping the pair will
breed in the near future. In the wild, dwarf mongooses live in groups
of 20 or more so it is hoped that a large group can be established at
the centre.
With Father Christmas, fun activities and cheeky new animals to visit,
the Christmas party has something for all Ealing residents to enjoy.
