You will have to register your details online with Ealing Council to be in with a chance of getting tickets for the Olympic party in Walpole park on Tuesday 24th July.

Ealing has been chosen as one of only six London Olympic over-night stopovers for the torch relay in London as it travels to the opening ceremony of the Games days later.

The highlight of the event from 5.30-7.30pm will see the torch arrive in the park and a cauldron lit with the historic flame – the final destination on its journey through the borough.

Performances will include music and acrobatics organised by Torch Relay sponsors Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung.

The Council has released details of the application process and stress that numbers allowed into the event will be limited and available on a first-come-first-served basis.- no figures have been supplied as to how many.

You can apply for the tickets from Tuesday 8th May.

To be in with a chance to get tickets, residents must register on the council website www.ealing.gov.uk/register and tick the box for Olympics 2012 local events updates.

They will then receive a link to an online booking form to allow them to apply for tickets from 10am on 8 May. For information call 020 8825 6051.

Keith Townsend, Executive Director of Environment and Customer Services said: “The evening celebration will be the highlight of an historic day for Ealing as the torch makes its way there. It will be a great way for all the family to enjoy the exciting countdown to the games just days later.”

Residents and businesses are also being encouraged to take to the streets to cheer on the Olympic torch relay as it travels through the borough.

The Olympic flame begins its journey through Ealing at Northala Fields, in Northolt and torchbearers will then carry the flame towards Southall and along the Uxbridge Road through Hanwell, West Ealing and on to Ealing High Street, Ealing Green and St Mary’s Road, before reaching the celebration at Walpole Park.

Among the torchbearers will be Brentside High School pupil Sydney Richards and Southall resident Tom Thacker, who were chosen from dozens of nominations by Ealing Council to carry the flame.

Sydney’s mother, Deanne Straker said: “It will make me so proud to see Sydney carrying the torch. Our family and friends will all be out there to cheer her on the day.”

Full details of which streets the torchbearers will be travelling along and when well-wishers will be able to cheer them on are available at www.london2012.com/olympictorchrelay
