London Mela Promises Day To Remember

Europe's largest Free Asian festival in Gunnersbury Park

Europe’s largest outdoor South Asian festival, the London Mela returns to Gunnersbury Park, Ealing, on Sunday 31 August for a spectacular line up of live music, dance, visual arts and food from South Asia.

Over 80,000 people enjoyed last year’s event and organisers hope that this year the festival will be even more successful, with nine different 'zones' offering exciting experiences for audiences.

As always, a starry bill full of stars from contemporary, classical and brand-new music has been booked for the Mela this year. For the ninth year running, the family-friendly festival is in partnership with the BBC's Asian Network. It aims to feature both emerging home-grown talent and international stars in Asian music.

The Asian Network will be hosting this year's 'Main Stage', whose headline act will be Miss Pooja, the largest selling female Bangra artist in the world who has released over 1'500 songs in 300 albums throughout her career. Other highlights on Main include Asim Azhar, an artist known by some as the 'Pakistani Justin Bieber'. DJs from the Asian Network will also be hosting a 'New Music Tent' to showcase some of the very best in British Asian music today.

There’ll be exciting new outdoor entertainment for the whole family to enjoy including explosive dance performances, visual arts, a family zone, food from around the world, markets and even a giant funfair. A children’s procession will take place at 5.30pm and a final procession at 8.30pm departing from the Magic Mela Family area.

This free event, suitable for all ages, is produced by Ealing and Hounslow Councils and supported by the Mayor of London, with BBC Asian Network a major partner for the 9th successive year. Featuring a huge variety of artists from around the world as well as a plethora of homegrown acts, the London Mela truly has something for everyone.
