No need to pack your bags - the Brownies are here

Brownies and guides raise over a thousand pounds for charity

Brownies and Guides from Ealing and Acton were packing bags in three of Ealings top supermarkets on Saturday 24th September to raise money for charity, and to raise awareness of our pressing need for adult volunteers.

The girls, all aged between 7 and 15, raised a total of £1250.The money has been split between The Shooting Star Trust, Hearing Dogs for the Deaf and Breast Cancer.

The event also highlighted the urgent need for more adult volunteers in the Ealing and Acton areas - waiting lists for local Brownie and Guide units are growing due to the popularity of the organisation.

Joanne Davies, Brownie Leader for the 16th Ealing Brownies in Northfields, whos organised the Bag Pack, says, This event was an opportunity for us to spread the word about how exciting Guiding is for adults as well as girls.

When I stepped in to running a Brownie unit of 24 girls I had no idea how I was going to do it, or how it would fit in with my full time job as a Sales Rep. After a few months I realised that it was the most fun Id had all week. Seeing a child grow in confidence and to be able to lead others in an activity is a priceless experience. It is also a rewarding escape from a hard job. Children have the ability to ground you and remind you to laugh and have fun

We are always happy for new adults to join in and help us. There are many opportunities to help and whatever time you can give us is valued. Many units need help with administration such as unit accounts. We would love to hear from you if you have a skill of a hobby that you are willing to share. Can you help run a meeting? Helping every other week or once a month is valuable to us.

The 1st Ealing Brownies and Rainbows are in urgent need of adult help to keep them running. The units, which are based in the Sherman Labour Hall in South Ealing, may have to close at Christmas unless new volunteers come forward to take over.
