Ealing is getting ready to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a range of celebrations across the borough.

As well as street parties there are a variety of other things going on throughout the borough.

On Sunday 3 June at 12pm, the Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Mohammad Aslam, will unveil a commemorative plaque on a replacement tree - after the original was vandalised - which was planted in Brent Lodge Park in honour of the Diamond Jubilee. Each London borough has been given a poplar tree to plant by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, Sir David Brewer.

Residents are getting ready to celebrate with 86 street parties organised by communities across the borough – even more than the 27 held last year for the royal wedding.

The council has helped neighbours get in the party spirit by waiving the fee for street party applications and road closures and providing traffic management and sign posting. The council is also supporting a free public event in Southall Park, Uxbridge Road from 10am to 6pm on Sunday 3 June.

On Monday 4th June the Mayor will light a Diamond Jubilee Beacon at Horsenden Hill, Perivale, the highest point of the borough at 10.15pm. The beacon is one of over 4,000 being lit across the United Kingdom and around the world before the Queen lights the final beacon at 10.30pm.

Local scout groups will fundraise with refreshment stalls and games at the top of the hill.

A book of congratulations for the Queen has been opened for residents to sign at Ealing Town Hall’s reception desk. The book will be sent to the Queen at a later date.

Councillor Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council said: “It’s going to be a very exciting weekend of celebration in Ealing. I’m delighted that so many people across the borough are getting together with family and neighbours to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and pleased that the council is able to support this.

“I would encourage anyone who would like to write a message of congratulations to do so in our book of celebrations at the Town Hall.”

Councillors will also make a statement of loyalty to the Queen from the borough at a full council meeting on Tuesday 12 June.
Later in the month, borough archivist Dr Jonathan Oates will give a local history talk at Ealing Central Library, about how the people of Ealing celebrated Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897.

The talk on 21 June starts at 6.15pm at the Green Room in the library. Tickets are £4 and available at the library counter, by calling 020 8825 9278 or by emailing: reading@ealing.gov.uk

The beacon lighting, unveiling of the commemorative tree and the party at Southall Park are open to anyone and you can turn up and attend for free.

Parking will be free on bank holiday Monday and Tuesday for customers using on street pay and display and shared use parking bays, as well as the council's car parks. Other restrictions such as double yellow lines, loading bays and disabled bays will be enforced as normal.
