Haven Green Cycle Event

Council's big push for bikes and chance to have your say about Ealing Broadway

A special cycle-themed family event at Haven Green will be taking place on Saturday 13 October.

Highlights of the Open Day include rides on a penny farthing or eight-seater mega bike, the chance to make a pedal-powered smoothie, cycle maintenance tips and information on cycle training courses.

The event is being held just yards from the new cycle hub opposite Ealing Broadway Station. The hub is the first of its kind in London offering covered, well-lit and more secure parking for 123 bikes.

The cycle hub also has 20 folding Brompton bikes for hire. The majority of the cost for the hub was covered by Transport for London.

Visitors to the open day will also have the chance to have their say on proposals for the next phase of Ealing Broadway transport interchange – the first phase being the cycle hub.

Proposed changes aim to make travelling around the town centre easier and the area close to the station more attractive.

Ideas include improving the station forecourt, reducing the number of buses terminating at Haven Green to reduce congestion, planting semi-mature trees and repairing the grass.

Consultation events are also being held on Monday 8 October at Ealing Cricket Club; and on Tuesday 9 October at Ealing Town Hall. They will both run between 6-9pm.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment said: “I hope residents will come along and not only enjoy the variety of cycling activities at the open day but also have a say on how we can make travel easier and more positive for the thousands of people passing through each day.
“We are committed to make improvements to Haven Green and integrate the different transport options so that all users can have a better experience, responding to the issues residents have raised."
