An Illustrated Talk on Nursery Gardeners

The seventeenth and eighteenth century garden centres

There will be a talk at Gunnersbury Park Museum on Thursday, 15 September, entitled 'A Community of Gardeners, 1650-1800'.

This illustrated talk by Val Bott will look at the numerous nursery gardeners in Brentford and Chiswick between 1650 and 1800, what they grew, their aristocratic contracts and business and family connections.

Most local histories comment upon the market gardeners of our area, who provided food for the London market, but these gardeners were expert at growing plants and producing seeds, some of them for newly introduced plants, and ran the historic equivalent of the modern garden centre.

It will be held in the Museum, with light refreshments from 7, talk starts at 7.30pm, all welcome, no need to book.
