Spanning over two big days, Ealing Blues Festival is now the largest dedicated blues event in Britain and will take over the big top tent on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July. This year’s festival will offer more fantastic acts than ever before, bringing together a range of musical styles, from soulful blues through to heavy rock tunes.
1970s Rock legends Dr Feelgood headline the festival, and will be joined by powerful female duo, Never the Bride, acoustic singer-songwriter, Emily Lee, melodic blues-rock band, The Chairs, and a number of other established and upcoming musical masterminds.
Festival-goers will also have the opportunity to win a brand new electric guitar worth more than £200 (SX thinline tele copy) courtesy of Gardonyi’s Music, Ealing. Raffle tickets will be sold at £1 and available from The Ealing Club stall at the festival. The winner will be announced on Sunday evening from the main stage. Half of the raffle proceeds will go to Music Therapy; a charity that works to promote and support research, training and projects involving music therapy. The other half of the money raised will be used to make a film showcasing Ealing’s long and interesting musical history.
Gates open at 1.30pm each day and the show runs from 2-10.30pm. Entry is just £5 per person, per day or £8 per person for both days. Children aged 12 and under are free. Buy tickets at the gates on the day.
From Wednesday 24 July, Ealing Jazz Festival will be back celebrating its 29th year, with big band favourites, funky Latin tunes, jazz and funk fusion, bebop, hard bop, contemporary jazz and more playing across three stages over five consecutive days.
The festival’s opening night will see tenor saxophonist Vasilis Xenopoulos join with a dynamic new line-up, the Wind Machine, to bring the music of legendary big bands to life. While on 25 July, The Frank Griffith Nonet will pay tribute to the late Eddie Harvey, a vital force in jazz and important contributor to the Ealing Jazz Festival in the early years. On Friday, Nick Mills and the Blue Note Project’s vibrant tunes will recall the 1960s Blue Note era.
Jazz festival favourite, Liz Fletcher will raise the roof on Saturday with songs from much-loved musicians including Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, as well as tracks from her self-penned album which inspired her nomination in the 2012 British Jazz Awards. On the final day of the festival, jazz guru Xantoné Blacq, will bring all the colour and rhythmic excitement of Africa to his uplifting show.
Entry is £4 (Wednesday/Thursday) and £5 (Friday-Sunday), or a weekend ticket is £8 (allows entry into festival Saturday and Sunday). Children aged 12 and under are free.
Both festivals will offer plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained, including face painting, arts and crafts and games. A range of food and drinks will be available onsite.
Line-ups may change due to illness and unforeseen circumstances.
