How to keep them occupied during the holidays
Local sports and leisure centres, Elthorne, Greenford, Twyford, Northolt and Southall, will be running action pack sports days for four-14 year olds, offering sports including mini tennis, basketball, and badminton. Some centres will also hold street dance, martial arts, space hoppers and Wii Fit sessions, as well as giant games of connect four.
Elthorne Leisure Centre is running a fitness crash course to teach children the ins and outs of a gym and to provide general health and fitness advice in a fun environment. While at Northolt Leisure Centre, swimming classes are being run for young beginners through to confident swimmers aged eight–15 years. Children aged four-11 years can take part in free craft and book sessions at Southall Library, as well as free story labs sessions at Greenford Library. Contact the libraries directly for more information.
Free mini architects and pond dipping family sessions will be on offer in Walpole Park during the break. The mini architects activity will run on Tuesday 2 April and pond dipping on Tuesday 9 April, with a morning (10am-12pm) and afternoon session (2-4pm) for each. Children aged five–11 years are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. The group will meet at the band stand next to the playground at the beginning of each session. Children can try stilt making or art on the move at PM Gallery and House on 4 and 11 April. Tickets are £6 and all art materials will be supplied. Please call 020 8567 1227 for more details or drop in during opening hours.
Full day holiday play schemes for children aged five-12 years are available at a number of play service sites around the borough. Activities include arts, crafts, cooking, games and drama, as well as the opportunity to make new friends and have fun in a safe environment. The play schemes are open from 8.30am to 5.45pm and incur a cost. Please phone 020 8825 8205 for more information and to book a place.
Free drop-in play sessions are also being run at Acton Park, Southall Park, Dormers Wells, Limetrees Park and Northolt Park centres for children up to 12 years, while children up to eight years are welcome at the play centres at Lammas Park and Islip Manor.
