Join Ealing's Creepy House Crew This Summer

Book challenge for youngsters

Children getting bored now? Get them reading!

They can take part in a free annual summer reading challenge. The theme this year is ‘Creepy House’ and is being held across the borough’s 13 libraries from now until 14 September, 2013.

To complete the challenge, children aged four to 11 years old must read six library books either from a specially selected range of spooky titles, or the wide range of other titles available in libraries.

Just by signing up, youngsters will receive a ‘Creepy House’ folder, which they can use to store their current book and track their progress in the challenge. Each time they return a completed book to the library they will receive a sticker and a special reward. Those who read all six books and complete the challenge will be awarded a medal and a certificate.

Children can also meet the Gruffalo at selected libraries on 28 and 29 August. Bookings must be made in advance, please contact your local library to reserve a space. A small fee of £1 may be charged for some activities with the Gruffalo.

To take part in the summer reading challenge, children will need to sign-up for free to one of the borough’s libraries.

Cabinet member for community services and safety, Councillor Ranjit Dheer, said: “We want children to have fun and boost their reading skills over the summer so they return to school with a passion for books and reading for pleasure. The challenge is a great way to fire up children’s imaginations and keep them busy over the summer holidays.”

Many more activities are taking place over the summer, please visit www.ealing.gov.uk/libraries for further information on dates, times and venues.
