Local Group Aims to Help Break Tap Dance World Record

Deirdre Costigan MP will judge its efforts in Blondin Park

The Dance Divas are taking part in a nationwide Tapathon

A local dance group is stepping into the spotlight this month as part of a nationwide Tapathon event to raise funds for BBC Children in Need.

On Sunday 23 November, the ‘Dance Divas’ from Egan Performing Arts (EPA) will perform at Blondin Park Community Pavilion, with Ealing Southall MP Deirdre Costigan on hand to adjudicate the group’s contribution to the world record attempt.

The Tapathon, which brings together dancers from across the UK, aims to set a new record for the largest simultaneous tap dance while raising money for charity. EPA, which has been running inclusive dance classes in and around Ealing since 2021, is combining the event with a community afternoon of coffee, cake and performances from its various groups—including the ‘Little Stars’, a troupe of budding performers aged 3 to 5.

Laura Egan, founder of EPA, said, “Our charity events are a wonderful way to celebrate the work that goes on in class and raise money for worthy causes.

“This time we are raising money for Children in Need and have already doubled the amount we raised in March.”

Earlier this year, EPA raised over £300 for Positive About Downs Syndrome (PADS), a charity close to Laura’s heart. “PADS were such a wonderful source of positivity and practical support for us as a family when our son was born, and it was great to be able to give back,” she said.

The Dance Divas class, which only began in early 2025, has grown rapidly in both numbers and confidence. “By March we only had about four pairs of tap shoes between us,” Laura said. “These ladies have thrown themselves into everything with so much enthusiasm. We’re really excited to be part of a national event like Tapathon.”

So far, the group has raised over £600 and hopes to reach their £1,000 target with support from the local community.
