Drayton Manor and Dormers Wells Moving On Up

Local schools in top 100 fastest improving schools in Britain

Two Ealing high schools have been praised by Stephen Twigg MP for their sustained improvement since 2002.

Dormers Wells in Southall and Drayton Manor in Hanwell feature in the School Standards Minister's list of the top 100 fastest improving schools in Britain.   Mr Twigg praised the dedication of pupils and staff at both schools and said it was important to recognise real improvement.

Ealing Council's Director of Education Nick Jarman said:

"This is a great achievement for these two schools and a real testament to the excellent leadership of headteachers Janet Leigh and Pritpal Singh.   The LEA has been working closely with these schools to raise standards and build on the solid foundations they have already put in place, and we are delighted that they have been recognised in this way."

It has been a rewarding twelve months for Pritpal Singh, Head of Drayton Manor, who was named London Headteacher of the Year at the Teacher Awards in June 2004.   He said of this recent success:

It is a great honour to have the achievements of our students recognised by the School Standards Minister in this way.   Staff and students have worked extremely hard to build on the very high standards already achieved and I am indebted to them for their commitment to excellence and continual improvement.

Janet Leigh, Headteacher at Dormers Wells said:

"At Dormers Wells we are delighted to have been named in the Minister's list of the top 100 fastest improving schools in Britain.   The staff and I are absolutely committed to giving all of our children every opportunity to achieve their true potential and we are clearly moving in the right direction."
