It's out with the old and time to say goodbye for another year to the Christmas tree.

Ealing Council say residents leaving their Christmas tree out for collection, should remove all decorations and place at the front edge of their property ( but not blocking the pavement) on their normal collection day.

There will be a free collection service provided with weekly refuse and recycling collections until Friday, 17 January 2014. If the tree is larger than 6ft in height or the trunk is more than 20cm in diameter, it needs to be cut in two for collection.

The garden waste subscription collection service will not take place over the Christmas period. The service will resume from Monday, 20 January.

Residents can also take real Christmas trees of all shapes and sizes to a number of venues across the borough during the months of January and February, including many parks, open spaces and car parks – listed below.

The two council re-use and recycling centres accept all garden waste, including Christmas trees, for recycling. These centres are located at Stirling Road, Acton and Greenford Road, Greenford.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for transport and environment, said: “Now that Christmas is over, it’s time to say goodbye to your real tree and have it turned into compost through our free doorstep recycling service. For those households where we can’t collect from your frontage, you will be able to drop off your tree at one of a number of local parks or recycling centre. Recycling your Christmas tree will also contribute to meeting the borough’s 50% by 2020 recycling target.’’
