Bond Street Closure For Sewer Repairs

Disruption likely for at least 10 days

Bond Street will be closed for at least 10 days from today (Wednesday 14th May) for emergency sewer repair work.

Thames Water say the collapse was detected in April and since then tankers have been visiting the area daily to pump waste water away from the broken pipe in order to prevent it spilling out into the street.

The repair work has had to be planned very carefully as the sewer pipe is near some high voltage underground power cables. Thames Water engineers have been working closely with electricity board officials since the collapsed sewer was discovered to plan the safest way to navigate around them.

Thames Water operations specialist Michael Wells said: “This vital repair has to be done to prevent residents and businesses suffering the misery of sewer flooding. If a sewer is damaged, like this one is, it doesn’t take waste water away from properties effectively, which means waste can back up and overspill from toilets, sinks and drains.

“We apologise for the inevitable disruption this work will cause and will do our best to have the sewer repaired and the road reopen as quickly as we can.”
