What do you think of new road proposals?
Uxbridge Road is one of the busiest - but also often one of the slowest roads in Ealing to travel through.
Is it because there are too many traffic lights? Do the bus lanes cause problems? Maybe accidents happen because traffic is too fast? What do you think?
Local residents are invited to special meeting on Monday 3 December at 7.30pm to discuss early ideas for improving Uxbridge Road in Hanwell and West Ealing.
The council is proposing a number of changes to the one mile stretch of Uxbridge Road running from Lower Boston Road to the Lido junction at Northfields Avenue.
If it goes ahead, the Transport for London-funded project be delivered in a number of phases over the next two years. The changes aim to make car journeys quicker, improve the look of the street, make the road safer for pedestrians and cyclists and support businesses.
The main proposals are:
* The removal of the traffic lights and their replacement with mini roundabouts at the junctions of Uxbridge Road / Boston Road at the Hanwell clocktower and at the junction of Uxbridge Road / Church Road at Our Lady and St Joseph’s Church. The one-way flow on Cherrington Road would be reversed to flow towards Church Road under this proposal.
* New raised zebra crossings and signal crossings at some of the busiest parts of the road.
* The implementation of new 20mph zones in Hanwell town centre and West Ealing town centre.
* More pay and display parking bays in West Ealing.
* The removal of the bus lanes in Hanwell town centre and their replacement with cycle lanes.
* New tree plantings.
* Improvements to the look and feel of the Hanwell Clock Tower junction, St James Avenue, Leeland Road and Green Man Passage.
The meeting will take place in the Princes Room at Ealing Town Hall between 7.30 - 9pm. Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for Transport and Environment, local ward councillors and council officers will be there to explain more about the proposals and to answer questions.
A further full consultation is scheduled to start in January when local residents and business will be able to give their views on the scheme.
Cllr Mahfouz said: ““This meeting is taking place at the very earliest stages of the project. We are still talking to TfL about our plans and the funding needed, but would like to get the input of local residents now to help shape our plans.
“This stretch of the Uxbridge Road can be difficult for pedestrians and motorists alike. Our proposals will make it easier for people to drive through Hanwell and West Ealing while also making it safer for cyclists and people on foot. We are hoping that work could start as early as next year.”
