Don't buy television from man in grey transit van
Police are warning residents in Ealing not to buy cheap televisions from a man in a grey van.
Since the beginning of the year, police have received several phone calls from people reporting that they have been sold tvs from a man in a grey Ford Transit van and then later finding that they do not work.
The man, who maybe alone or working with an accomplice, is described as very convincing and, to gain confidence, tells the buyer to note down the registration number of his van and mobile telephone number.
He is described as white, aged between 25 and 30 years, of chubby build, with short black hair and an Irish accent.
Detective Constable Nishitani, of Ealing CID, said: "The old adage 'if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is' is never more apt than in these cases.
"Many people are being scammed into buying faulty televisions in the pretence that they are in full working order.
"The seller may state that he is working as a courier for well known electrical companies, but this is not true.
"Can I warn people not to buy any goods in these circumstances no matter how convincing the seller sounds and, if safe to do so, call police immediately."
